Material items are the bedrock of any ERP system. In other contexts they can be called "SKU's" (Stock Keeping Units), "part lists" or just "materials".
To create a manufactured item, first follow the steps to create a purchased item
Then do the two basic steps to turn it it into a manufactured item: set it as "Plan for Manufacture" and enter a "Structure" (in other systems the structure can be called "Bill of Materials" or "BoM" however Manu Online has the benefit of also supporting components of a product that can be non-material items such as work time etc.
Plan for Manufacturing
Changing the Plan for value from Purchasing to Manufacturing enables the manufacturing data features for the items. This data is displayed in sub tabs under the Manufacturing tab of the item card. All the manufacturing data is called the Manufacturing Template, and a manufactured item can have multiple versions of which one is Active i.e. used in planning. This is about product versioning. By default the manufacturing template is named as "Make" plus the item id.
Plan for Manufacturing means that the Manu Online material planning system (MRP) will schedule this item for manufacturing. i.e. if there are any shortages then production work orders will be planned and not purchase orders.
Enter a product structure
First ensure that there is at least one purchased item in the system, or better still a few of them to make sense of how this works. For multilevel product structures there can also be other manufactured items as subassemblies.
Here one item has been entered to the product structure, with a quantity of 2. This means that if for instance a sales order is entered for 3 of this product, the system will plan for manufacturing of 3 products and for the purchasing of 6 purchased items.
An alternative way to enter a list of items is to use the Upload button. This allows for copy and pasting in the list instead of entering line by line. The copied list (for instance from Excel) must have the same columsn as shown on the screen.
