- Overview
Manu Online includes archiving functionality for stock-related operational data. The purpose of this functionality is to move older data from active operational tables to corresponding history tables so that the live system remains efficient and responsive in daily use.
Archived data is not deleted from Manu Online. Instead, it is moved to history tables, where it remains available for later retrieval when needed.
- Purpose of Archiving
The main purpose of archiving is to maintain consistent system performance over time.
As operational data grows, active tables can become larger and slower to process in everyday use. By moving older completed data into history tables, Manu Online helps keep the active operational data set lighter while preserving historical information for future use.
Archiving supports:
- consistent system speed
- preservation of historical data
- continued traceability of archived transactions
- improved long-term manageability of operational data
- Archiving Rules
Archiving in Manu Online is based on a defined cut-off date.
All stock transactions older than the cut-off date are eligible for archiving. These transactions are moved from the active tables to the corresponding history tables.
However, stock transactions that are still allocated to live operations are not archived. This ensures that transactions still needed by ongoing operational processes remain in the active data set.
In summary, Manu Online archives older stock transactions only when they are no longer connected to live operational use.
- Stock Quantity and Stock Value Integrity
When stock transactions are archived, Manu Online automatically creates correction lines in the stock changes table.
These correction lines compensate for the stock transactions that have been moved to history. This ensures that archiving does not change the current stock situation.
As a result:
- stock quantity remains the same as before archiving
- stock value remains the same as before archiving
This means that archiving changes only where the historical transaction data is stored. It does not change the actual inventory balance or inventory valuation in the live system.
- Archiving Process
The archiving process is performed in stages.
First, Manu Online archives stock transactions that meet the archiving criteria.
After the stock transactions have been archived, Manu Online archives all related procedures and connected data associated with those archived stock transactions.
This ensures that the related operational history is stored consistently in the corresponding history tables.
- Data Included in Archiving
The following transaction types are archived according to the rules described above:
- Service work orders
- Manufacture work orders
- Receipts
- Dispatches
- Customer returns
- Direct sales
- Material transfers
In addition to the main transaction data, related tracking and logistics information is also archived. This includes:
- Serial numbers
- Lot tracking
- Picklists
- Availability of Archived Data
Archived data remains available in Manu Online after the archiving process.
Historical information can be requested from Manu Online when needed. In addition, product tracking data remains available through the standard product tracking screen.
This means that although older data is no longer stored in the active operational tables, it is still preserved and accessible when required.
- Benefits of Archiving
Archiving provides several important benefits in Manu Online.
It helps maintain good performance in the live operational environment by reducing the amount of older completed data in active tables. At the same time, it preserves historical information for traceability, support, and future reference.
The key benefit is that Manu Online can keep everyday operational processing efficient without losing important historical data.
- Summary
In Manu Online, archiving moves older stock-related operational data from active tables to history tables without deleting the information.
Transactions are archived based on a cut-off date, but transactions still allocated to live operations remain in the active tables.
To preserve data integrity, Manu Online automatically creates correction lines so that stock quantity and stock value remain unchanged after archiving.
Archived information remains available when needed, and product tracking data can still be viewed through the normal product tracking screen.
