Entering direct sales with a barcode reader
Use a usb or bluetooth connected barcode reader to enter items. The barcode reader must emulate a keyboard and be programmed to send an Enter after each scan. Test the barcode reader in notepad before use.
To enter a line, first put the cursor in the new row, item box. It is then possible to repeatedly scan items. The barcode can either be the item id, one of the manufacturers' id's on the item or the item's EAN number. Following a successful save, the computer will play a "beep". Consider switching off the beep on the barcode reader, as the beep on the barcode reader indicates only that the code has been read, but does not tell if the code has been found and saved as a sale. If an invalid code is entered, the item search popup will be displayed and a different sound will be played.
Using a receipt printer and cash drawer with Direct Sales.
The receipt report opened by the receipt button on direct sales can be used to drive a receipt printer instead of opening the pdf report. We call this "Direct printing" as it does not use pdf, but rather sends raw data directly to the receipt printer. The technology used to connect the printer to the Manu Online system is called PrintNode. For more details on how to set this up see the article on Direct printing.
A cash drawer can be opened when the receipt is printed. The cash drawer is plugged into the receipt printer and a command sent to the printer with the receipt will open the drawer.
